10:19 pm - present continuous - in progress

Plan:

Review present tense of “to be”

Uses

Forming the present continuous tense (positive and negative statements and questions)

Exercise A

Read the following narration, and underline examples of the present continuous tense. When you are finished, write the names of the people on the picture provided based on the information given.

This is English 101. It’s 8:55 in the morning. Class begins in five minutes. Some of the students are already in class. Carlos and Rosa are always the first students in the class. Right now, they are sitting and talking about the weather. It’s really cold today. They’re both from Mexico and they’re speaking Spanish. Carlos is eating a banana and Rosa is drinking a cup of coffee. Maria is sitting alone. She’s studying for a test today. Marc is sitting alone, too. He’s doing his homework. Marc always does his homework in class. Linn is standing at the blackboard and writing the day and the date. She writes this information on the blackboard every morning. David and Vin are standing near the window and talking about soccer. They’re speaking English, because Vin speaks Vietnamese and David speaks Spanish. David is sharpening his pencil. Ali is reading the newspaper. He walks to school and buys the newspaper on the way. He always reads the news before class. Adam is walking into the classroom. He’s wearing a hat and coat because it’s cold out today. He’s carrying his books. He’s smiling and saying, “Hi!” to the other students.

 Exercise B

Fill in the blank.
